Spring has sprung, and since it symbolises new, fresh beginnings, we recommend five ways you can spring clean your life for the rest of 2023
Spring is one of my favourite seasons, not only because of the longer days and warmer weather but because of the new beginning it symbolises. It also means indulging in one of my favourite guilty pleasures: Ice Cream. Yes I know it means working out more, but it’s worth every cold, velvety taste in my mouth. The gloom of winter and life’s usual unpredictable events may have made your 2018 heavy, but it’s time to shed off negativity and bloom where you are today. Here are ways to spring clean your life:
Sort out your finances: I have always been obsessed with knowing where my money goes by having a ‘budget book’. Ever since I started out in my career, I always wrote down where I prioritised my salary. Through this habit, I could save up enough to take me through school, carry me through joblessness and have a deposit for my first car. What I mean is that it’s wise to be disciplined with your finances by writing down your income, no matter how little it is, and trace how and where you spend your money. It may not be easy to be financially disciplined when you have no income to begin with but practice habits that will benefit you in the long term.
Clean out your contact book: There are people you need to delete from your life: toxic partners and demeaning friends. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve known certain people, but if they make you feel bad or hurt you constantly, it’s time to declutter them. Life can be challenging enough, but if there’s one thing you can control, it’s who you allow into your space.
Revisit your vision board: What career, business, or personal goals have you ticked off from your vision board? If not, why have you procrastinated on fulfilling your dreams? As a Christian, I understand that God’s timing is not necessarily your timing, but it doesn’t mean you have to be complacent. Nothing comes easy, especially a career of your dreams, but giving up is the one thing your future self certainly won’t thank you for.
Clean out your closet and organise your workspace: If you have clothes you haven’t worn since the beginning of the year, it’s time to let go. Sort out your closet and donate clothes you don’t need anymore. Also, since you spend more time at work than at home make sure that your office desk is one that makes it possible to be as productive. Clean out as much clutter as possible and see if it won’t make any difference.
Rest more: Sure, hard work is one key ingredient that will get you far in life, but remember to take good care of yourself is just as important. Having a good night’s sleep is one way to do that.
