7 Things To Do To Take Care of Your Well Being This Year

Finding happiness and taking care of yourself should top your list of priorities this year. Here are ways you can look after your wellbeing.

Often, we focus on making others happy, from our bosses to our family, partners, friends and even the society at large. Not that it’s a bad thing but the problem often comes when we do that at our own expense. How do you define happiness and what makes you happy? When was the last time you did something that made you smile? Trying to keep up with the expectations of others can lead to a lot of stress, especially if it takes its toll on you. Here are ways to take care of your well being for the rest of the year:

Find something to appreciate each day: Every day is different and it’s impossible to happy all the time. But no matter the challenges you face, find something to be grateful for, either your health, your job or even life itself.

Decrease the level of expectations from others: I find that you find peace and little disappointment when you do something from the heart without expecting much from other people. Expecting others to make you happy is a sure way to hurt yourself all the time.

Embrace your emotions: We often avoid or deny how we truly feel rather than deal with our emotions. You don’t do any justice to yourself by bottling up your feelings. Find healthy ways to confront and deal with any situation that sparks any emotion it brings out.

Do what makes you happy: I love the saying that advises us that when you branch into a career that you are passionate about you won’t work a single day of your life. Extend that beyond the office doors. Find what makes your heart sing and take the chance.

Clean out your contact list: There are people in your life that are too toxic for you and you are probably too scared to admit it. Find the courage to delete people who weigh you down all the time.

Forgive yourself: As human, we are bound to make mistakes and decisions we regret later in life. But find it in your heart to forgive yourself and learn from your past.

Live in the present: Dwelling on the past and worrying about the future only steals the beauty of the presence. Enjoy what life has to offer now and create great memories with your loved ones. Drake couldn’t have rapped it better when he said, “You only live once, that’s a motto, yolo.”
