After months of anticipation Cardi B’s debut album, Invasion of Privacy was finally released early this month, and it was worth the wait

When 25-year-old internet celebrity and reality TV star dropped Bodak Yellow, which dominated the airwaves globally, in June last year, she caught the attention and nods of many people. Ten months later she has gifted her fans with her much-anticipated album, Invasion of Privacy. Though many feared that she’d be a one-hit wonder the album proved that Belcalis Almanzar, known as Cardi B is not in showbiz to play games. Even with the usual “B**ch I am rich” claps that many hip-hop artists make, Cardi’s music resonates with everyone, from the hustlers who are not having it easy to women with fragile hearts, warning against anyone wanting to break their hearts. The 12 track album opens with Get back ten, a hustler’s anthem, who will sing along to “Knock me down nine times but I get up ten.” She then introduces her first guest artist, Migos with her next song, Drip. I couldn’t help but bounce and dance to her track, I like it featuring Bad Bunny and J Balvin. The song, sampled from Tito Nieves 1997’s single, I like it, has a fun trap twist to it, which also shows her Latino side. Since Bodak Yellow, which was nominated at the Grammys this year, and earned a number 1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 charts for five weeks, the star has evolved into a favourite entertainer and rapper in a short space of time. She set a record as the first female rapper with 3 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 – “Bodak Yellow, “No Limit” (G-Eazy) and “Motorsport (Migos / Nicki Minaj). The rapper, who announced her pregnancy a few weeks ago is no ordinary rags to riches woman, who used to be a stripper. She’s a global force to be reckoned with, proving that there’s no dream unattainable if you work hard and smart enough. You know you are doing something right when the likes of Rihanna and Oprah congratulate your work on social media. Be sure to look out for the album and let me know what you think of it.
