Everyone wants success, but not everyone gets it. This is could be one of the reasons holding you back from achieving it.
There is one thing we all have in common: we want to be successful. If that wasn’t the case, why do many people sacrifice their sleep and social lives in order to successfully achieve their goals? Though success means different things to everyone, its underlying factor is that we define it according to what we want to achieve. What I find fulfilling about what I do is that I engage with many people and these are few examples of what success means to them:
- Success equals money and power
- It equals having a managerial role at a big company or starting and running a booming business
- It means finding a life partner to settle with and build a family with.
No matter the definition success needs one to have so many characteristics, but the main trait to have is perseverance. If you read or follow any successful person’s narrative you will see the many hurdles they faced that could easily make anyone give up, but their persistence got them to where they are today. Failure, doors closing in your face, promises and hearts broken, concepts stolen and people hating are all part one’s journey to reaching the top. But what separates success people from the rest is their fighting spirit to reach the end goal they envision. It wasn’t long when I felt overwhelmed with so much pain I felt when I thought how much I had failed in my life. But my dear, wise and bubbly sister said that failure is simply First Attempt In Learning. Although life is a journey, we have a way of mistaking it as a race as we usually set deadlines on when we have to achieve certain goals. Another big mistake we make is comparing other people’s successes with our current situation. The edited and filtered images we see on social media makes things worse as they propel many of us to want instant gratification. Unfortunately, life doesn’t work that way, especially when traveling the road to success. If you really want to make it in life, in your career or in your business ventures you have to be persistent. Persist in prayer, redo that business proposal that you were rejected for, go back to recruitment departments to ask for feedback on why you didn’t get that job. Make failure your learning curve and not a yardstick to measure your worth. Remember you are not equal to failure. Allow yourself to cry and be hurt but dust yourself up and try again the next day. It is possible to reach success, only if you don’t give up on your dreams. Persistence is the main trait that makes anyone successful, refuse to give up and include yourself in that coveted list of successful slayers.
What other traits do you think make people successful?
