Miss South Africa 2021 Lalela Mswane made history as the first black Miss Supranatural titleholder in Poland on Friday. She shares her success tips
The 24-year-old model won the hearts of judges and raced ahead of contestants from 69 countries to clinch the crown. What’s more, not only did she fly the South African flag high, but she also went down history books to become the first black Miss Supranatural titleholder. Mswane was one of the front runners throughout the build-up to the finale, wowing the judges in the national costume competition, which paid tribute to her Zulu heritage and was designed by Cape Town-based Lloyd Kandlin, the director of the Costume Department.

The bachelor of law graduate from the University of Pretoria, who was crowned by her predecessor, Chanique Rabe of Namibia, is also a dancer. After winning the title, she exclaimed: “I am overwhelmed; at the moment it still feels surreal. I am deeply thankful to all the amazing people who have supported and uplifted me, I couldn’t have done it without them. I want to thank the organisers of Miss Supranational, the Polish people, all my fellow contestants, the Miss South Africa Organisation and my South African fans. This title is not mine alone, it is South Africa’s victory.”

Miss South Africa Organisation CEO Stephanie Weil said: “We are incredibly proud of Lalela and she really deserved this win. It is a victory for her and South Africa and we can’t wait to see what she is going to achieve on the international stage.”
And her success tips for young people? “I encourage our youth to pursue their passions and to not be afraid to turn their passions into profit because their profit will end up supporting their passions. I also implore them to persist and be relentless in pursuit of their dreams. Challenges are encountered while climbing the ladder of success but nothing worth having ever comes easy. In essence, they have to be steadfast in the face of any adversity they may encounter and know that they will conquer and succeed.”
