At 26 Refiloe Phoolo, affectionately known as Cassper Nyovest has been able to ruffle feathers in the hip-hop industry. I don’t know about you but his journey to success has inspired me in a lot of ways. His persistence in fulfilling his dreams in the entertainment and business field is something I feel the youth should be motivated by.
Most times, we tend to look at the end result of someone’s success and take for granted the sweat and tears it took for them to be where they are. When Abutifillup took the challenge to fill up the 20 000 capacity Ticketpro Dome in 2015 and the 40 000 capacity Orlando Stadium in 2016 it showed how important it is to be consistent in fulfilling your dreams no matter how outrageous and big others think it is.
I had a chat with a brand strategist who knows Cassper very well a few months ago about how frustrating it is for many artists who struggle to find sponsorship for their initiatives. While they try to materialise certain projects, often from their own pockets they also have to deal with the headache of begging sponsors to come on board, which I find concerning. Even with consecutive successful concerts I was appalled when I read that Cassper still struggled to find sponsors up until the last minute. One can’t help but wonder why we can’t invest in our entertainment industry as there is so much talent that always puts this country on the global map.
On the bright side though, the stadium’s golden circle has been sold out while many artists, such as Black Coffee, Thando Thabethe, Somizi Mhlongo and Riky Rick have jumped on board to show support for the initiative. Will history be made again this weekend? I can’t wait to see!
