The annual Fabulous Women Awards celebrate and honour women and young girls who uplift society and uphold integrity

The Fabulous Girl Foundation kick started women’s month with the fifth instalment of the Fabulous Women Awards on 5 August 2017, with more than 100 women and young girls from all walks of life attending the event. Themed ‘bloom’, the intimate gala dinner, which took place at Radisson Blue Hotel in Sandton, was successfully organised by philanthropist and business woman, Pontsho Manzi who is the founder of the organisation. Some inspirational guests, who were also the recipients of the awards included media personalities Dineo Ranaka and Hulisani Ravele, 27- year-old author Nonhlanhla Mdluli, model and founder of Mrs South Africa, Joani Johnson, 15- year-old motivational speaker, Kimberly Malope and young girls from Seshegong High School, in Olievenhoutbosch Township who the foundation assists with career guidance and mentorship.

Guest speakers included Skeem Saam actress Makgofe Moagi and Pontsho who highlighted the social scourges that women face, which overshadow the important role they play in life. Pontsho added that healing the wounds of violence against women and children shouldn’t lie with government alone but with each individual. She also challenged young women to defy the world’s notion that they have to sell their souls and bodies to make it in life. “It’s time we tell a different story,” says the founder, “and I strongly believe that it starts with building confidence in young girls by running workshops that build their character, morals and a sense of purpose in their lives.”

The evening unfolded with more entertainment from singer, Chanelle Hoorne and a fashion show from Pretoria-based designer Refentse Motsepe of Artistic Gusto. The evening was one to remember for the young high school girls who connected with and got inspiration from their role models in the business and entertainment space.
