Media mogul and businesswoman Bonang Matheba partners with global fashion brand Steve Madden for a new collection in time for the festive season

It was a night filled with glitz, glam and some of South Africa’s crème de la crème of the entertainment and business industries. On Thursday, friends, fans and celebrities got an inclusive invite to the launch of the Bonang Matheba x Steve Madden collection set to hit retail shelves on November 1. Guests were treated to welcome drinks and starters and a set-up that content creators and influencers can only dream of. Later on that beautiful, breezy evening, Bonang made a grand entrance fit for the queen she is, with a classic Cadillac that ‘vroomed’ into the venue at Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in Midrand, Johannesburg. But the roaring sound of the engine was subdued by the guests’ excitement to see her. The media and business mogul dazzled in a pink boobtube dress that showed off her flawless skin, as well as Loop ST Gold gladiator heels from her collection. Television and radio presenter, donned in a beautiful gold dress, hosted the evening and hit the nail on engaging with and entertaining the audience.

The star was invited on stage by Potelwa to talk more about the collection. Matheba shared about her visit to New York City, where she met Steve Madden and the iconic brand’s team, and commended how they paid attention to detail, especially on each of the designs they collaborated on. She also reflected on her 20-year career and said that moments like this kind of partnership were a true testament that anyone, no matter where they came from, can dream big and reach for the stars if they believe in themselves and put in the work. About how she wants people to feel when wearing her collection, she said she wants them to feel beautiful and that they can conquer the world.

What I enjoyed about the event was how she was accessible to and made time to connect with everyone. She made guests feel heard, appreciated and loved, a quality I believe makes her more successful, relevant and a force to be reckoned with.

The event came a few weeks after she strutted the runway for Paris Fashion Week’s “Le Défilé L’Oréal Paris” showcase earlier this month. The star is booked, busy and making an indelible mark on every stage, behind each mic, every business deal she deals and every country she lands in. Here’s to 20 more years… oh, and definitely more shopping this festive season.

In our previous chat with Matheba, the global icon shared her success tips. She advised: Stay focused. Keep your head down, don’t let distractions distract you. Be patient with yourself. Be kind to yourself, and importantly, love yourself. Work hard, and this means work thoroughly and to the best of your ability.
