Media personality and entrepreneur, Bonang Matheba is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to her career. She shares what success means to her as well as her success tips

How do you define success?

Success varies for each person, but the most important thing about success is being able to define it yourself. To me, success is when you wake up every morning and doing what you love. It’s when you make yourself happy and the people you love happy. It also means being comfortable with yourself, spiritually, emotionally and financially.

You are undeniably a very successful young woman in South Africa, who and what do you credit your success to?

I definitely credit my success to God and my mother. Also, hard work, focus, and dedication got me this far. There’s a lot that can happen when you keep your head down and put in the work.

How would you advise young people who feel discouraged about the hard work they put in their dreams but don’t see results?

It’s impossible to not feel like giving up when that happens. But I think the most important thing is understanding and respecting the value of time. Since many of us, young people, live in instant gratification, we tend to forget that in order to succeed in anything you need to give it time. My advice would be, be patient. Things worth having are worth working hard for and waiting for, too. Hang on, because your big break is coming; but not if you give up. If it’s worth it, it’s worth holding on to.

Lastly, what are your success tips to young people?

Stay focused. Keep your head down, don’t let distractions distract you. Be patient with yourself. Be kind to yourself, and importantly, love yourself. Work hard, and this means work thoroughly and to the best of your ability.
