We all have big career dreams and aspirations, but it’s often the stumbling blocks we come across that makes us settle. Here is what kills your career dreams

Remember when you enthusiastically shouted your career aspirations when you were younger? Are you currently living your career dreams? or are you reading this post feeling that there’s more to achieve than where you are? I know that feeling of refusing to settle for less than where you wake up to every day. But life happens, bills have to be paid, and many of us have people who depend on us, financially. Some dreams do seem too far-fetched to follow because of our current reality. But abandoning your potential to grow doesn’t do any justice to you. Here is what’s killing your career dreams:

Fear of failure: Many of us settle for less because the thought of failing seems to be a daunting experience. To be honest there’s no fun in not achieving your goals but there are important lessons you can learn through failure. Only you can fulfill your dreams but you have to persist and believe in yourself no matter what.

Giving up: When I completed high school my first manuscript was rejected countless times and I must admit I did give up and thought that being an author wasn’t meant for me. For years I avoided the idea of penning a book until a dear friend of mine advised I consider it, again. To be honest I am considering it and giving up will not be an option.

Being complacent: Oprah Winfrey couldn’t have said it better when she mentioned that luck is preparation meeting opportunity. You have to know as much as you can about the industry you are passionate about and work as hard as you can to be where you want to be.

Blaming everyone else but yourself: If you feel you are not where you want to be because of other people than you are lying to yourself. Being born into a family or a place that has little resources is not your fault but learn from successful people who started out poor and see how you can emulate some of their strategies.

I don’t believe that there is a such as thing as an overnight success. Your hard work, passion, and determination are key ingredients that will help you achieve your career dreams no matter how hard things seem to be. Keep pushing because each day brings you a step closer to the success you are working hard for.
