Our favourite local designer and photographer, Rich Mnisi and Trevor Stuurman work with global music icon, Ciara on her Freak Me music video in Soweto
Once again, South Africa was put on the global map recently, thanks to our #MenCrushMonday, Rich Mnisi and Trevor Stuurman who worked behind the scenes of Ciara’s video for her new single, Freak Me, featuring Tekno Miles. The video was shot in the famous streets of Soweto, in Orlando West, and, yes, you guessed right, some of our local dance moves, like the gwara gwara (made famous by Rihanna at the 2018 Grammy Awards) were featured in the song. The video is spiced up with some African flare to it, especially with the attires worn by Ciara’s back up dancers, as well as the location. The music icon slays in Mnisi’s zebra maxi dress, short leather brands, and a Ndebele necklace. In his post on Friday,10 August 2018, Stuurman shared, Behind the scenes with @ciara on her latest project #FreakMe which I shot stills for and co-styled alongside the incredible @rich_mnisi. Choreographed by @just_sino_. Produced by @mysoulistic. Shot in Soweto. Mnisi also shared on his handles, Ciara wearing RICH MNISI LOOK 12 from NWA-MULAMULA: MOTHER for her project FREAK ME shot by @trevor_stuurman.”
So this is the kind of magic that happens when fashion, style, and music join. If this isn’t proof that dreams do come true, if you believe and consistently work hard, then I don’t know what is.
