Time flies. That’s a fact we can’t change; and no matter how swelled up your bank account is, time is one precious asset you can’t afford to buy back. This is the reason successful people spend their time wisely because they value every second that ticks by daily. Most of them would do anything to have an extra hour or two added to each day, but they resort to starting their day as early as 04:00 am just to tick off every task they aim to achieve. Not all of us have a lot to do, instead time seems to drag at a painfully slow pace. And if you are one of those people who agree with the last statement, you could be wasting your time!
By now we should know that life is too short and we don’t know how long we have to fulfil our purpose. Life itself is a risk because you don’t know what will happen to you a few hours from now. So why settle for the job you hate or the relationship that is taxing your happiness? Many dreams, inventions or talents go to waste because many people are afraid to take risks. Yes, reality does hit us hard in the face as we have to make a living somehow. But with the high rate of unemployment crippling the world, and especially South Africa don’t you think your great business idea could open doors of opportunities?
Most of my friends know how crazy I am about old school Hip Hop and that my all-time favourite song is Eminem’s 2002 hit song, Lose Yourself. Every day presents itself as the perfect opportunity for you to fulfil your dreams. I am not saying that it is easy but I believe that persistence has gotten a lot of the people we look up to, to where they are today. I love Oprah’s saying that there is no such thing as luck but your preparation meeting an opportunity. You should always be prepared to make that great first impression because you will never know how an opportunity will present itself to you. Giving up is such an easy road to take, but this is what sets successful people apart from the rest. Persistence is key to reaching for your dreams. If you find yourself doing the following, you are sure wasting your time, but you can make the most of it, starting from today:
You make social media your reality: If you can’t live without this platform and find fulfilment bashing others behind social media you are wasting your time. Why don’t you use it to build a positive brand that potential clients or employers would want to associate themselves with?
You are with friends or a partner who is toxic for you: There is a powerful saying that states that if you want to know a person, look at the company he keeps. Do yourself a favour and choose your circle wisely.
You are working in a job you hate: If you relate to this, you are not the only one. Many people put up with their jobs to make a living. Your full time job shouldn’t deter you from building your dreams. Invest a few hours after work to pursue your side passion until it grows into the empire you want.
You don’t take care of yourself: Your body is God’s gift to you. Embrace it, flaws and all and take good care of yourself. Try to live a healthy lifestyle and get as much rest as possible. Your body will thank you for it.
You compare yourself with other people: We are all destined for greatness but it doesn’t take the same time and method to reach it. Never use other people’s successes to measure your worth, but use it as an inspirational reference on your journey. Remember to make the most of your time by focusing on the things and people who make you happy, always.
