I have three best friends who I grew up with. We met at church and are from the same youth sodality (called the Children of Mary). We all have different personalities and aspirations but somehow the bond we have for each other grows stronger each passing day. I remember the time when I was dating my obnoxious ex-boyfriend, it really took a toll on our friendship as I kept pushing them away. Gosh, I was at my lowest point as I lost my job while trying to fix a broken and really toxic relationship. I slowly slipped into depression and didn’t want any body’s company, especially theirs. But they did what they do best and found a way to be there for me, somehow. Whether by visiting or calling me often. This is one of the many incidents where they showed me that they cared for me. They have celebrated my highest moments and supported me in my lowest seasons. I have seen the face of true love through them and am always thankful that they are in my life. From my experience, below are signs that you have great friends who love and care for you:
They don’t hang your dirty laundry in the air: Good friends don’t blab your problems to everyone who cares to listen. They always lend an ear and a shoulder to cry on, and if they can, they help you find a solution to bad situations you are going through. Most importantly, they keep your problems to themselves.
They are there for you no matter what: If your friends make you feel guilty for the success you enjoy because of your hard work or can’t hide their jealousy for things that are going well in your life, run fast and don’t look back. You deserve better than friends who seem to celebrate your pain and tears.
They always keep in touch: We all have dreams and goals to chase to a point where we barely hear from or touch base with our loved ones for a long time. But true friends do keep in touch once in a while to make sure you are fine.
There are many ways true friends show you they care for you. As long you are in the company of people who challenge you to be the best version of yourself, you are on the right track. And, like me, very fortunate. I hope you do show them that you appreciate them
