The international, mostly white, lingerie fashion show, Victoria’s Secret has included 20 black models at its show this past weekend. We look at some of the melanin models who worked the runway

The global brand, which reportedly enjoys over 800 million viewers from across 190 countries, has a long way to go when it comes to representing the women with all different shades of beauty, sizes, races, and shapes. Nevertheless, 20 black women were seen on the show’s runway and we take a closer look at who they are:

Jasmine has not only walked in six Victoria’s Secret Fashion Shows, having first started in 2012, but she is an official Angel. She’s coming off of the honor of wearing the Fantasy Bra in 2016.

Anderson walked her fourth Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, she is also a high-fashion runway model extraordinaire who walked in her first runway show ever at 17, for Marc Jacobs.  She’s also currently the face of Fenty Beauty and Pat McGrath Labs.

Winnie has had quite a busy year, from walking international fashion weeks to major ad campaigns. This was her first-ever Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. And she’s making history, as the first model with Vitiligo to be cast in the show’s history.

Though this was Iesha’s first year walking in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, she’s worked for a number of brands, such as Forever 21, ASOS, and Nasty Gal. She’s a favorite of luxury fashion brands like Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta, and Miu Miu.

Having worked with Oscar de la Renta, Yeezy, Moschino, and more, Duckie has also modeled for Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty line since it’s launch more than a year ago. This was first ever time walking in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

Mayowa made her debut on Victoria’s Secret runway this year, but she was actually meant to do so in Shanghai in 2017. We are glad she made it to the runway this year.

Grace’s family fled the South Sudan Civil War for the U.S. when she was 8; years later, she was scouted at a mall and became America’s most recognizable fashion models.

You might recognise the South Sudanese model from runways like Balmain, Rick Owens, Miu Miu, and Mugler. This was also her first Victoria’s Secret Show.

Jourdana made headlines last year, following in the footsteps of Maria Borges and wearing her natural hair on Victoria’s Secret runway in 2017. Her reason? Powerful. She said, “We want girls that everyone can identify with. I’m hoping there are girls who will be like, ‘Oh that looks like me!’”

Originally from Tanzania, Herieth has been all over the Fashion Week runways. The model has two VS shows under her belt, having been cast in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show for the first time in 2016!

The full show will air on 2 December 2018, and we can’t wait to see all the women who represented #blackgirlmagic.
