Beyonce’s soundtrack for The Lion King and lead single of her 14 track album, Spirit is her love song to Africa and the music video doesn’t disappoint.
The fact that Beyonce is an icon and a living legend is news to no one. Beyonce stars as Nala in the new Lion King movie and to celebrate, the star will release an album, The Lion King: The Gift, which she executive produced, on 19 July 2019. Beyonce broke her seven-year break from being interviewed and did an ABC special about the movie. About the song, the 23 time Grammy award winner told ABC News, “This soundtrack is a love letter to Africa, and I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa, and not just use some of the sounds and did my interpretation of it.” She added, “I wanted it to be authentic to what is beautiful about the music in Africa,”. Speaking of Africa, Beyonce has included a myriad of talented African musicians who have put the continent of the global map on her new album. These artists include Busiswa and Moonchild Sanelly, Tiwa Savage, Mr. Eazi, Tekno, Yemi Alade, Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Shatta Wale.
South Africa seems to be well represented, not only in the Lion King, as John Kani also voices the character of Rafiki, but in the icon’s single as Timeslive reported that the film’s director Jon Favreau confirmed that Queen Bey wrote the song with South African producer and composer, Lebo M, who wrote the 1994’s Lion King opening song, The Circle of Life.
The singer has had a busy and profitable year, which always pays off as her documentary/concert movie “Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé” has been nominated for six Emmys, four of which are nominations for the queen herself. And her song, “Spirit,” is expected to be submitted for Oscar consideration.
The video was released only yesterday, (16 July 2019) and it has already had more than a million hits on YouTube. Talk about breaking the internet.
The album will be released on Friday, 19 July 2019, the same day that the Lion King will be in cinemas worldwide.
Yep, I need to brag a little, I watched the press screening on 16 July 2019. And all I can say is this is one film you need to view and rate yourself.
