Tumi Morake reflects on her career highlights, as well as joining the impressive line-up of Comedians of the World, coming to Netflix on 1 January 2019.

It certainly was the year of actress, comedian and author, Tumi Morake. She took to Instagram the list of her career highlights and said, “My career top 9. I had a very selfish year for the most part. It had to be, in order for me to get back to myself. I thank God for the strength to keep moving and growing. Now 2019 is looking mighty inviting! Thank you all who have walked with me, believed in me, given me the benefit of the doubt, your time, bought tickets, tuned in. Alles. Thank you.
1. Wrote a book and recorded the audiobook for release next year.
2. Bowed out of radio… for now.
3. Did an Australian run of Tumi Or Not Tumi
4. Completed another year of my weekly column
5. SHOT A NETFLIX SPECIAL!!!
6. Season II of #wtftumi
7. FINALLY got to play a bad bad
8. Returned to stir sh*t up on The Queen
9. Began the Married But Not To Each Other tour.”

She also shared with online entertainment website, Channel 24 about being the only female comedian  representing the African continent, “It has a been huge affirmation that the work I’m doing has spoken for itself, and that people can trust me with something of this magnitude.”

“It’s one thing to be the first but it’s even more special to be counted among the best. And being the only female comedian from the continent makes it even more special. For the industry to grow, the artists need to grow and diversify. To look like I have staying power means everything to me,”. “Sometimes we sell ourselves short,” she adds.

The show, which was filmed in Montreal, brings together 47 comedians from 13 regions in 8 languages, for the “first of its kind” stand-up comedy series.

About performing on the American continent for the very first time, Tumi also mentioned that it was exciting, frighting, eye-opening, and a growing experience for her. She concludes, “Netflix gave us the power to edit our own specials so I’m really curious to see the two Loyiso’s and Riaad’s episode because I watched them live and I watched it going: ‘This is perfect from start to finish and I wouldn’t change anything!”
