Tennis champion Serena Williams goes topless in a campaign to encourage women to ‘touch themselves’ for breast cancer awareness month
It’s breast cancer awareness month and some celebrities like Serena Williams are hard at work to spread awareness. The tennis champion collaborated with Australian fashionwear, Berlei (which makes Williams’s bra line) for Breast Cancer Network Australia to encourage early detection of breast cancer.
As part of the I Touch Myself Project (a 1990s single from the band the Divinyls sung by Serena Williams in the campaign), Berlei has released a new snakeskin print, rock star inspired bra called The Chrissy. Named after celebrated diva, Chrissy Amphlett of the Divinyls, who passed away from breast cancer at the age of 53 in 2013, the bra is printed on the inside with the words ‘I Touch Myself’ to remind women to regularly examine their breasts. Berlei will donate 100% of the profits from the bra to BCNA. Also, Chrissy was passionate about spreading awareness of the importance of early detection and wanted her global hit, ‘I Touch Myself,’ to become an anthem for breast health around the world.
In her Instagram post, Serena Williams says, “This Breast Cancer Awareness Month I’ve recorded a version of The Divinyls global hit “I Touch Myself” to remind women to self-check regularly.

Yes, this put me out of my comfort zone, but I wanted to do it because it’s an issue that affects all women of all colors, all around the world. Early detection is key – it saves so many lives. I just hope this helps to remind women of that.
